BTS069 Determine the Best Way to Control Signal Effects

BTS069 Determine the Best Way to Control Signal Effects

Dr. Eric Bogatin’s No Myths Allowed, published in PCD&F, Feb. 1, 2007
If you are new to some high-end 2D field solvers, you will be surprised that the coupling capacitances, as displayed in the off diagonal elements, are negative. How can you have a negative capacitance? Is this a problem in the field solver? The negative capacitance arises from the definition of capacitance used by the field solvers. This column explains why it really does make sense.
